Soy Candle Burning Tips

FOR GLASS & TIN CONTAINERS
The unique process of extracting the oil from the soybean has enabled me to produce a candle that is truly Made in the USA. My container candles are made from 100% natural, soy wax .

BURNING TIPS:
*Because soy wax burns slower than paraffin, thicker wicks must be used to melt the wax to the edge. For a clean burn I use only cotton or paper core wicks, BUT the wick will smoke if not kept trimmed. Any candle flame can smoke if the flame is not burning efficiently. My candle will not smoke if you take proper care of the wick. If it is smoking, that is carbon that is not able to burn off because the flame is too big or is in a draft.

*It is very important that you allow your candle to burn until the melt pool reaches the outer edge of the glass.  If a candle is burned for periods less than what it was designed, the candle will start to tunnel (burning a hole down the center leaving much wax unused.) To avoid this, burn the candle for appropriate times. On average this will take 1 hour per inch in diameter of container. Under burning your candle will minimize your total burning hours. Thick wax left on the sides of the glass may inhibit the performance of the wick. Trim your candlewick to 1/4" prior to each burn. (This will be right below the mushroom head.) Use scissors to trim wick so to avoid pinching wick off too short. If a candle starts to tunnel and has not gone to deep you might be able to correct it by letting the candle burn for longer periods (on a day you will be able to watch it)

*Trim wick every 3-4 hours. The wick will smoke if not kept trimmed!!!!!!!

TIP: Cotton wicks do not stay in place as well as metal-core wicks, so you may need to adjust the wick occasionally. If an off center wick is causing your candle to burn unevenly, use a metal spoon to gently push the wick back to the center while the wax is still soft.

NEVER LEAVE A BURNING CANDLE UNATTENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tips for Pillar Chunk Candles

*Trimming your wick properly is essential. If the wick is too long when lit, the flame will be high and smoke. Extinguish, cut and relight. With every light, trim the wick to ¼“. If you don’t, the wick will be heavy and tip to one side while burning. It will make that side weak and subject to dripping. Straighten the wick before lighting to ensure an even burn. Trim wick every 3-4 hours. The wick will smoke if not kept trimmed!!! Following these easy tips each time will make a huge difference in the performance of any candle.

*The first burn is the most important. Let the candle burn until pool of wax reaches the outside rim. (This is an average of 1-2 hrs per inch of diameter of candle.) If you blow it out before, the size of the wax pool will become the size of the hole in the candle for its life, causing the candle to tunnel, have difficulty staying lit and retain thick walls. Thereafter, each burn should be long enough for the wax pool to reach that outer edge (usually a minimum of 1 hour & and maximum of 1-1/2 hours per inch of diameter of candle.) Example…… a 3” candle will take between 3-6 hours the first burn and thereafter a maximum of 4 ½ hours to retain its shape.

*Keep your candle out of any draft to ensure top performance. A sure way to tell if your candle dripped because of a draft is look and see if the dripping is happening equally around the candle. If the dripping is only in one place, then you have a draft, or the wick was too long when you lit the candle. If you cannot avoid placing your candle in a draft ( ceiling fans, etc…), then turn it half way around every hour or so. Avoid displaying candles in direct light. Ultraviolet rays break down the dyes and cause colors to fade.

*When burning candles with flowers, foliage or candy, closely watch when they become exposed. Decrease burning time, trim and remove immediately.

*When burning Pyramids and balls trim wick to 1/8”. Let burn on an average of 3-6 hours the first time, or until the burning “hole” does not get any larger. During this time, you will have to blow out, trim wick and relight due to the shape of the candle (the wick will get long and smoke). Thereafter, trim wick to ¼” and let wax pool reach edge to ensure proper burning for the life of the candle. This will be a minimum of 1 hour.

REMEMBER….THE FIRST BURNING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ON ANY CANDLE… Trim before you burn and burn until you need a trim………!!!!!!!!!

PLACE YOUR CANDLE ON A NON-FLAMMABLE SURFACE AND NEVER LEAVE A BURNING CANDLE UNATTENDED.
